Data Security

When you visit the Bristol City Council jobs website you will be asked to provide certain information about yourself, including your name, contact details, date of birth and job history. Some of the information is mandatory in order for the Council to consider an application for a vacancy or meet its statutory monitoring and reporting responsibilities. However, where indicated, some of the information is optional and you can choose not to complete.

Your personal data will be processed fairly and lawfully. Bristol City Council will use your personal information to assess and process your job application and used for anonymised reporting purposes. Data entered as part of an application is stored within the council recruitment system and will be made available to an applicant to ‘re-use’ as part of a future application.  Please be aware that Bristol City Council uses a UK third party supplier to hold the information you submit. The third party company complies with the Council’s security policy and therefore will not share your data with anyone other than the Council.

Bristol City Council will treat your personal information as private and confidential. Your diversity information including date of birth will be held separately and will play no part in the selection process. In the event of your application resulting in the offer and your acceptance of a position at the Council, your personal information will be sent to and held in the Council’s HR Database.

If your candidate profile has been inactive for a period of 365 days then it will be deleted from the recruitment system, you won’t be able to access any information previously saved in that profile and will need to re-register to apply for jobs.

For further information or if you wish to see information held by the council about you, please make a subject access request by email at foi@bristol.gov.uk or by writing to The Data Protection Officer, Bristol City Council, City Hall, College Green, Bristol, BS1 5TR, and they will send you the appropriate form and advise you of the process and fee for this service.
